Privacy policy

What we collect, why, and what we do with it.

Lightwater Car Audio respects your privacy. This notice explains what personal information we hold, why, and your rights over it. The data controller is Lightwater Car Audio, The Workshop Behind, 58 Guildford Road, Lightwater, Surrey, GU18 5SD; you can reach us at info@lightwatercaraudio.co.uk.

What we collect

When you contact us, we receive whatever you send: typically your name, phone number, email address, vehicle details and a description of the work you'd like. When we do work for you we also keep the invoice, the vehicle registration and, for security products, the installation record the manufacturer or insurer requires.

Why we use it

To answer your enquiry, quote for and carry out work, administer warranties and subscriptions, keep the accounting records we're legally required to keep, and — occasionally — to let past customers know about something relevant to their vehicle. We don't sell or rent personal information to anyone.

Who we share it with

Manufacturers and monitoring providers where a product requires registration (for example, a Ghost immobiliser or a Scorpion tracker); our accountant; and the email and storage providers we use to run the business. Each is bound by its own data-protection obligations. We'll share information with the police or your insurer if you ask us to, or if the law requires it.

This website

When you send an enquiry through this website, the details are emailed to us and a copy is kept in the website's secure admin area so that nothing gets lost. We don't use advertising cookies or analytics trackers. Page fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means Google's servers receive your IP address when the page loads; Google's privacy policy covers that processing.

How long we keep it

Enquiries that don't become work are deleted within 12 months. Records of work we've done are kept for six years after the last transaction, to meet our legal and warranty obligations, then deleted.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to a particular use. Email us and we'll respond within a month. If you're not happy with our answer you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
